Types of Artificial Intelligence

AI can be broadly categorised into two types:

  1. Narrow AI: Also known as weak AI, narrow AI is designed to perform specific tasks or solve particular problems. It operates within a limited scope and does not possess general intelligence. Most AI systems that exist today, such as virtual assistants, recommendation systems, and facial recognition software, fall into this category.
  2. Artificial General Intelligence (AGI): AGI, sometimes referred to as strong AI, is a hypothetical form of AI that possesses human-like cognitive abilities. AGI would be capable of understanding, learning, and applying knowledge across various domains, much like humans. Although AGI is still a theoretical concept, its development remains a long-term goal for many AI researchers.

Although AI has come a long way since its inception, it continues to evolve and holds immense potential for future advancements.
